Marlene L. Daut and Kaiama L. Glover win René Wellek book prize

and have won the 2026 from the American Comparative Literature Association for their co-edited volume,. (2024)

The prize recognizes the best book in comparative literature and honors their collection as a “comprehensive, erudite, and sprawling” work—likely the first full-scale history of Haitian literature published in English. Featuring essays by twenty-seven contributors, the book explores themes of storytelling, sovereignty, and self-determination in Haitian literary contexts.

Both scholars are leading figures in Caribbean literary and historical studies and were honored at the ACLA’s 2026 annual meeting.
